If you have clicking coming from the Direct Drive Motor of your Phantom, this troubleshooting video is for you. Follow along with the video for instructions on inspecting your motor and replacing the 10mm M4 Direct Drive Adapter screws with Shorter 8mm M4 screws.
EST TIME: 10 Minutes
Tools Required:
- 17mm Wrench
- 2.5 mm Allen Key
- Skate Tool
- 8x M4 Screws (8mm)
Step 1: Remove the Nut, Spacer, and then the Wheel. Place the spacers to the side in a place where you won't lose them. If they are dirty, you can clean them off with a rag.
we like to lay out a white rag or paper towel to place all of our hardware when we service our board.
Step 2: Take the wheel adapter off by unscrewing the four 10mm M4 Screws with a 2.5mm Allen Key.
- We'll replace these later with the shorter 8mm M4 Screws later in Step 5.
Step 3: Take a look at the silver nut and be sure to note the condition of the large spacer pressed against it. If there is damage or chipping on the motor similar to the size of the spacer, replace the spacer. Also be sure to note the dirt buildup, condition of the bearings, and any other visible fatigue. Take a few pictures and send them to help@milesboard.com if you need help in identifying any problems!
Step 4: Tighten the 17mm nut.
Step 5: Be sure to place your spacers back onto the axle if you removed them. These are important in keeping a constant force on the bearings and preventing damage from over torquing or normal wear and tear. Reassemble the Wheel Adapters with the 2.5mm Allen Key using four shorter 8mm M4 Screws.
Step 6: Place the wheels back onto the Axle with one spacer on each side of the wheel and tighten the wheel bolt with your Skate Tool. Make sure there is no space between the mount and the wheel walls. It should be a sturdy fit.
Step 7: Try it out! If the clicking goes away, then MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. If not, be sure to contact help@milesboard.com so we can start to figure out what is going wrong with your board.
